The end of Ramadan is marked by Eid Ul-Fitr. Eid Ul-Fitr is celebrated on the first day of Shaw’waal.”Eid” is an Arabic meaning “festival“, while Fitr means “to purify”. So Eid Ul-Fitr represents the purification after completing the fasting month.

History

According to hadith, Eid Ul-Fitr was instigated in Madinah. Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) found some people celebrating two explicit days in which people used to entertain by Gaiety and playing. Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) asked people regarding this at which people responded that these festivities were occasions of recreation and fun. At this point,
Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) exchanged these days for the day of breaking the fast and the day of sacrifice, instead of these festivities for people. One is Eid-ul-Fitr and the other one is Eid-ul-Adha.

The first Eid was celebrated in 624 CE by the Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) with his friends and relatives after the victory of the battle of Badr.

Zakat ul-Fitr

Zakat ul-Fitr has to be paid by the end of Ramadan. Payment of Fitra becomes Wajib after sunset on the eve of Eid- ul-Fitr.

Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) ordered to pay Zakat ul-Fitr before going out to perform the Eid prayer. If Zakat Ul-Fitr is paid after the Eid prayer, it will only be considered as regular charity.

Eid ul-Fitr Prayers

Eid prayer is mandatory for every male Muslim.

It consists of two Rakaat with six Takbirs. It must be offered in gathering. The prayer is followed by the khutba.

Eid prayer is different from other prayers. The Imam will head the prayers and there will be six sets of takbirs (Allah Akbar). Three of the takbirs will be in the start of the prayers. After each takbir, the hands are raised to the ears. At the start of the second rakat, after the Imam recites the Fatiha and a sura, additional three takbirs are recited.

Some mosques will do all six takbirs at once at the start of the prayers and then proceed with the prayer.

Khutba

Muslims should listen with reverence to what the Imam has to say. It is considered as a time to remember Allah’s blessings and to be thankful to be present in such an assembly.

Sunnah of Eid

• Wake up earlier than usual.
• Take a bath after Fajr.
• Be dressed in the best clothes available, whether new or cleaned old ones.
• Use Attar.
• Eat odd number of dates or anything sweet before the Eid prayer.
• Give Zakaat ul fitr to the needy.
• Perform Eid prayer at an open ground.
• Go to the place of Eid prayer early.
• Walk to the place of Eid prayer.
• Recite the following Takbir on the way to the Eid prayer:

                    “Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar La Ilaha Ila Allah Wa Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar Wa Lillahi Alhamd.”

• Use different routes to and from the place of Eid prayer.
• Read two rak’ahs Waajib Salaatul Eidain.
• The khutba of Eid is Sunnah but to listen to them is Waajib.
• Shake hands and hug one another on happy occasions.
• Read the two rak’ahs Nafl prayer on reaching home.

EID MUBARAK!

History of the Eid al-Adha is different and really interesting; The Muslims celebrate that in the month of Zil-Hajj on 10th of Dhu’l-Hijja. Muslims for whole of the word celebrate this day in accomplishment and to commemorate the faith of Abraham. Allah gives name to Abraham in Quran khalil-ul-Allah, The friend of Allah.

Many years back Abraham was born in idol-worshipping tribe of Chaldea. At his childhood he was among the kuffar , But Allah had brightened his heart with the light of truth. That’s why He doesn’t adopt them. Clarity of his heart toward Allah revealed when he had dream that he was sacrificing his own son. Then for fulfilling the command of his Allah next day he sacrificed camels. And distributed it among the poor in the name of Allah, As Allah commanded him in dream. But on next day he dreamed the same, and he was bit worried because he had already fulfilled the command by Allah. But Next day he did the same he sacrificed camels again. And he prayed to Allah to accept that.

But one the third night he had same dream; he saw he was sacrificing his on son Ishmael. On that day instead of sacrificing camels he called to his beloved son and told him a whole story.

(The Quran: 37:102)

“O my son! I have seen thee being sacrificed in a dream; what sayest thou?”

His son had a strong believe on his father and because of that without any question he replied in yes. Yes father I am ready.

(The Quran: 37:102).

“O my father! Do what thou art commanded; if God please, thou wilt find me of the patient ones”

So Father and the son bother were get ready for accomplished the command by ALLAH.

They went far away from house on the hills side. Daemons tried hard to restrain him from this act, because that act was for ALLAH When he was going to cut the throat of his son, his eyes where close and he cut the throat but not of his son but a goat from heaven. They accomplished their mission to fulfill the command of ALLAH.

All the religions of the world celebrate a festival of one sort or another. Eid is the religious festival of Muslims all over the world, every Muslim race, tribe or people throughout the world celebrates this holy festival with full respect and rhythm.  The eid festival is one of that Muslims are commanded to celebrate in joy and happiness by the ALLAH ALMIGHTY Himself. This shows how much important EID is.  The importance of eid is mentioned in many Surahs like SURAH YUNUS.  Before the light of Islam in Arabia, there is mention of Eid festival as yawm al-sab and some others among the Arab tribes.

Muslims celebrate two eids in an Islamic year, Eid ul Fitr or Eid ul Azha, on the sight on the moon. First EID, Eid ul Fitr is a Muslim great festival that marks the end of Ramadan and thus celebrated on first of Shawal. The first day of eid, therefore, falls on the first day of the Islamic month of shawal.  This eid has no connection with the historical incident nor is it connected to the alterations in seasons and cycles of years. It is a particular festival for Muslim to celebrate their joy and happiness by the will of ALLAH Almighty as a reward of the completion of the holy month of the Ramadan.

The second eid that Muslim celebrate in the memory of the great sacrifice in the way of ALLAH by Hazrat Ibrahim (A.S) and Hazrat Ismail (A.S) on the tenth of Zil-Hajj. Zil-Hajj is the last holy month of the Islamic year and in this scared month, Hajj is also performed in the City of Makkah in Saudi Arabia. Both the EID festivals have significance that is purely spiritual. On EID days Muslims thanks ALLAH for giving them will, strength and patience to fast in the month of Ramadan, and also recall the great sacrifice of Hazrat Ibrahim and Hazrat Ismail on the EID DAY. The celebration of the EID does not only mean having great feasts, friendly gatherings and embraces, the Muslims must dedicate this day to worship ALLAH and thank HIM for all the His blessing and mercy.

{And (Allah desires) that you should complete the period (of Fasting), and that you should magnify Allah (saying Allahu Akbar) for having guided you, and that peradventure you may be thankful.} (A-Baqarah 2: 185)

Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, la il Llaha il Allah! Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, wa li Llah il-Hamd!

Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest! Praise be to Allah! When Allah commands His servants to say “Allah is the Greatest” in Adhan (Call to Prayer), Prayer, and `Eid, and urges Muslims to wholeheartedly chant these sweet and beautiful words of praise and glory, that, despite of being soft on the tongue, are heavy on the scales (they command great reward on the Day of Judgment).

Allah is the Greatest; Allah is the Greatest! This is neither in vain nor in jest, but it is meant to implant in the hearts of the believers the essence of this religion, i.e., these words stress the fact that Allah is Omnipotent, and He is above anything else!

Allah is the Greatest! His Might is above all psychological crises that overwhelm people, no matter how extensive these woes and crises are, even they become so mountainous to the extent of encompassing the whole earth and engulfing all souls, no matter how overwhelming people’s calamities are to the extent of making the vast universe seem as small as a circle of ring, nothing can relive them from these crises except deep belief in “Allah is the Greatest”!

Allah is the Greatest! He is Greater than all temporal lusts that disseminate mischief in the earth, spread chaos in the society, and tear apart people’s amity, cooperation, and solidarity. Nothing can curb these lusts except the belief in “Allah is the Greatest!”

Allah is the Greatest! He is Greater than all tyrants who enslave the helpless people and infringe upon their rights, for they are weak and powerless. Nothing can set these affairs in order except the belief in “Allah is the Greatest!” Here, we recall the Qur’anic verse that read, {And We desired to show favor unto those who were oppressed in the earth, and to make them examples and to make them the inheritors, and to establish them in the earth, and to show Pharaoh and Haman and their hosts that which they feared from them.} (Al-Qasas 28: 5-6)

Muslims! Oh you who declare in your Adhan, Prayer, and `Eds your true belief in “Allah is the Greatest!” Never faint, nor grieve, nor despair, nor weaken, nor give in. Surely, the earth is Allah’s, it does not belong to anyone except Him. He, Almighty, gives it for an inheritance to whom He will amongst His servants, and the sequel is for those who keep their duty (unto Him), not for the traitors, nor for the aggressors, nor for the tyrants, nor for the oppressors. Be confident in the fulfillment of Allah’s promise, for He never breaks His promise.
