Frustrating isn’t it? You pray and you pray. You make long duas and just pour your heart out. You beg and you plead to Allah to give you something or remove some harm from you.

But no matter how hard you supplicate, your duas just don’t seem to get answered. And you have no idea why.

Let me first put your mind at ease by letting you know that Allah hears everything you say, and He knows everything you desire. But look at the last part of that verse. Allah commands us to respond to Him and Believe in Him.

Are you doing that? Have you responded to Allah and His messenger (peace be upon him)? Is your belief (imaan) complete?

Perhaps you’re lacking in a few areas. Or perhaps it’s something even deeper than that. Let’s look at a few reasons that might be holding your duas up.

1. You Aren’t Doing Your Part.

This might be the most obvious problem. You want Allah to give you this and give you that, but you aren’t giving Him anything in return.

You’re not praying regularly.

You’re not fasting during Ramadan.

You’re not paying your Zakah (obligatory charity).

I’m sure you understand that Allah punishes us for the wrong we do. That punishment is not just in the hereafter; it can also happen in this life. Neglecting the 5 pillars of Islam is sinful and will earn Allah’s punishment.

2. You Are Impatient.

You just couldn’t wait could you? You asked Allah for something over and over again, and when you didn’t get it when you wanted it, you got impatient.

And so you gave up. You stopped asking and started believing that Allah wasn’t going to answer your dua. And then you went and told someone that Allah didn’t answer your prayers.

Your knowledge is limited. But Allah’s knowledge is unlimited. You might think you want something right now, but Allah knows better when it is right to give it to you. But since you became impatient, and said the wrong thing and stopped making dua, you lost out on everything.

3. You Ask For Something Evil.

Why would anyone ask Allah for something bad? Is that what you did? Did you ask Allah for something that would bring you sin?

Did you ask Him to give you a girlfriend or boyfriend?

Did you ask Him to to give you a Riba-based loan so you could buy a house or car?

Did you ask Him to bring you income from a job that sells pork or alcohol?

Well if you did, now you know why He didn’t answer your supplication.

4. You Don’t Think You’re Gonna Get It.

Impossible and possible is all in your mind. Just because you don’t think it can happen, doesn’t mean it won’t. And it certainly doesn’t mean Allah can’t make it happen.

Don’t make half-hearted duas. Make your duas with confidence that Allah will grant them. Especially if you’re asking for something good and beneficial.

Abu Huraira reported: “None of you should say, ‘O Allah, forgive me if You wish, (or) O Allah, have mercy on me if you wish.’ Rather you should be firm in your request, for (Allah does whatever He wishes) and no one can force Him to do otherwise.”

5. You Are Involved In Too Much Evil.

“O people, Allah is Good and He, therefore, accepts only that which is good. And Allah commanded the believers as He commanded the Messengers by saying, ‘O Messengers, eat of the good things, and do good deeds; verily I am aware of what you do,’ (23.51) and He said: ‘O those who believe, eat of the good things that We gave you’.” (2.172) The Prophet (peace be upon him) then made mention of a person who travels widely, his hair disheveled, and covered with dust. “He lifts his hands and makes supplication, ‘O Lord, O Lord,’ but his diet is unlawful, his drink is unlawful, and his clothes are unlawful, and his nourishment is unlawful. How then can his supplication be accepted?“

Narrated in Muslim.

There’s a Hadith in which it is mentioned, to the nearest meaning, that no prayer of a Muslim goes unanswered. one of three things happens:

The person gets what they want.

A calamity is removed from that person’s life instead.

The du’a is saved as a treasure in the hereafter. [Your insurance :)]

Not a single prayer of a Muslim goes unanswered. Either Allah will give us what we want, or He’ll remove a calamity from our path instead, or He’ll save it for us in Jannah [our insurance]. Whatever the outcome, we’re not at a loss, because He knows what’s best for us.

Allah says: But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah Knows, while you know not (Surah Baqarah, 2:216)

One final point – Often times, our prayers are not answered because we are engaged in sin and forbidden acts. If we are engaged in forbidden actions, we cannot expect Allah to answer our prayers.

In Sha Allah, I hope this serves as a reminder for both you and me on what it takes to come closer to Allah and have our duas answered. Ameen

Uproar! Its uproar everywhere!

It is restless agitation of aggressive people everywhere and privacy is lost. We are deprived of any chances to free ourselves from the insane chaos of the world to a serene and intimate setting and to evaluate our life. This loss yields a dreadful adversity. We are unable to keep the imperative self purity in our life.

Privacy is essential for a true believer. Prophet (Peace be upon him) once told: “Those who remember Allah in seclusion and shed tears, will be shaded by Allah under His shade on the day when there will be no shade but His.” He added, those who shed tears this manner will never enter the hell as long as it is impossible to transfer a cow’s milk back to its udder once it’s been milked out. Isn’t it a formidable fortune to be able to strictly and uncompromisingly question our past behavioral approaches and the spiritual life and correct the faults, during our ‘own’ precious lonely moments?

Such solitary moments inspire many to think differently. Remembering Almighty God in our secluded moments will remind us that we have not been sailing through the track of faith, and we should strive to make our future life candid, conscientious and moral. In fact, how and who a person ‘behaves’ in his private life, defines what/who he is; rest everything is superficial. In public, only the admirable splinter of one will be exhibited and will pretend as much honest as possible. He would be strict in offering prayers, pious, preacher and a guide, but not necessarily be exemplary in his private moments, committing sins when no one is around, gets enslaved by the alluring beauty of evil deeds, forgets Almighty Allah in seclusion and becomes neglectful even by understanding punishments from Allah. Doesn’t this dilemma conquer many of us, as well? Yes, Indeed! Very few people utilize their rarely obtained lonely moments in introspection and righteous deeds.

A Hadith reports that Umar (May Allah please with him) had fearfully asked tough questions to himself when he got some private moments, as he passed behind a wall during a journey along with Anas (May Allah please with him).

Life, Death, Judgment Day, Heaven and Hell… aren’t these frightening us? Don’t we have to question our own conscience in a more intolerant way than a cruel dictator? We should be able to contemplate on ourselves, by keeping every worldly matters, which engross us aside. Often, we are insincere because, we fail to envisage on the purpose and aim of our own deeds.

We can see in the preface of his famous book ‘Ihya ul Uloomidheen’, Imam Gazzali (May Allah please with him) specifies the importance and necessity of introspection. Please analyze our lives and ask following questions:

Did I start my day by reciting the morning invocations(Dhikr) taught by Prophet?

Am I keen in offering the ‘five times prayer a day’ in the congregation in Masjid?

Do I read at least a small portion from Holy Qur’an every day?

Do I set time aside to read Islamic books?

Do I keep myself away from committing sins, conquered by the remembrance that Allah is nearer?

Do I have a dear friend who precisely follows commands of Allah? OR (Do I have a dear friend for the sake of Allah?)

Do my involvements in Islamic activities aim to pave a way for my success in the hereafter?

Do I help at least one poor person every day, in any possible way?

Do I fulfill the responsibilities towards my family in such a way that they would not testify against me in front of Allah?

Does the belief, ‘Allah is with me’ bring peace of mind in all hurdles?

Do I learn at least one ‘Sunnah’ (practices of prophet) every day and practice it?

Do I pray for others?

Do I constrain myself, not to commit falsehood, deception or distrust to any one? Am I truthful in my words?

Do I memorize the prayers taught by prophet meant to offer in various occasions?

Do I go to bed with an intention to wake up early and pray ‘Thahajjudh’ (Night prayer)?

Do I assure that I practice things that I preach to others?

Do I ‘remember’ Allah in seclusion?

Does the thought death is always nearer, frighten me?

Can I pledge that I will not accomplish anything ‘Haram’ (prohibited)?

Did I seek Allah’s forgiveness (Thouba) upon the sins committed?

Do I pay Zakath and Charity regularly?

Do I participate at least in one Islamic gathering weekly, apart from Friday Jumua?

Do I make virtuous people my exemplars?

Do I have the courage to question injustice and falsehood?

Do I keep punctuality – one of the best habits of a true believer – in my life?

Do I show integrity in all responsibilities assigned?

Do I interrogate myself in private moments?

“Allahumma Innee As’alukka imaanan yubaashiru Khalbee, wa yakheenan Swadhikhan hattha a’alama an laa usweebanee Illa maa Kathabthanee wa ridan bimaa kasabtha lee”

(O Allah, I ask you for imaan that is deep rooted in the heart, a sincere conviction that nothing will afflict me except what You ordained, and a complete satisfaction in what you have provided for me.)

This is a supplication that strengthen our imaan and impart us the will and courage to lead a peaceful life contented with Allah’s decrees and destiny. This supplication, Prophet (peace be upon him) prayed while he was in ‘Makhamu Ibrahim’, should be memorized by each believer. A true believer will never be affected by the angst of perils. The firm belief and hope in Allah, who loves one more than his parents and mate, is what sustains him and provide him strength.

“If it was like that”, “If I had that”, “If it was like this”… Prophet (peace be upon him) prohibited all such talks. He warned that such thoughts are the doors opening to evil acts. Qur’an reminds us that such talks are that of unbelievers. “O you who have believed, do not be like those who disbelieved and said about their brothers when they traveled through the land or went out to fight, “If they had been with us, they would not have died or have been killed,” so Allah makes that [misconception] a regret within their hearts. And it is Allah who gives life and causes death, and Allah is Seeing of what you do.” (3:156)

Things bound to happen will definitely happen. No one can alter it. We should keep this fact in our minds all the times and remind the same to others. How great a relief is the words from Quran – “No disaster strikes except by permission of Allah.. (64:11) gives us.

Death is certain. Every one, big or small, has a day appointed by Allah. Each and every one has to face it, either a few moments or days after birth or many years after. It is never possible for us to alter that date decided for us by Allah. “Even if you had been inside your houses, those decreed to be killed would have come out to their death beds” is what Allah mentioned in Quran (3:154). When everything is pre-decided, it is meaningless to whine or sadden on losses. Whatever Allah took back from us was given to us by Him only. We can only say “Lillahi maa akada wa lahu maa a’atwa, Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un” (لله ما أخذ وله ما أعطى, انا لله وانا اليه راجعون” – To Allah belongs what He takes and what He gives, surely we belong to Allah and to Him shall we return)

Life will be pleasing for those who can find firm belief and tranquility in Allah’s decisions. Thus, all worldly afflictions will end and mind will prosper with peace. Such will receive endless and uncountable rewards in the hereafter.

What is Dua?

Dua is way through which a person asks for help or thanks Allah. Man is a slave and he is dependent on Allah, he is helpless without Allah.

And Dua is how a person shows his dependence and helplessness to Allah. The purpose of every act of worship is that a person recognizes his God. He recognizes Allah, his creator. And one should always act according to the will of his creator, and he should not do whatever he pleases. He is a servant of Allah and he should accept his weakness and ask for help from Allah. This can be done through making dua.

The Acceptance Of Dua

Today most people don’t make dua and even when they do they do it half-heartedly. They are not convinced that their dua will be answered. This is entirely wrong, we should always remember that Allah always answers the prayers of His people. But it is important to note that the demands are not always directly fulfilled, the effects of duas can be varied. The first effect is that the demand is fulfilled directly, and if the demands are not directly met then two things can happen. A problem that was coming your way may have been avoided, or the reward of the dua will be given to you in the hereafter.

Making Dua Is A Necessity

Most of us make dua only while we face any difficulty or we need something, but this is wrong. We should remember Allah in times of need as well as in times of happiness, and we ought to never stop making dua. Making dua to Allah gets us His attention and it is also a form of worship like Prayers and we cannot ignore it. And Allah gets displeased when his believers don’t make dua to Him. In the Quran in Surah al-Furqaan (interpretation) Allah asks Muhammad (SAW) to say to the believers that My Allah only pays attention to those who pray to Him but not on careless people.

And if you have denied Him you will get the inseparable punishment for the rest of the life and also after death. The Prophet (PBUH) once said that Dua is also a worship of Allah. On another occasion the Prophet (PBUH) said that a person if not ask or pray to Allah, He becomes angry with that person. Allah listens to the prayers made to him by his believers and in Surah Baqarah it is stated that (interpretation) when people who are my servant ask about the concern I am so close to them, I hear the prayers of every caller when he calls me and with my own will I make them believe upon me so they can walk through the right path.

So we should develop a relationship with Allah through making dua, we should ask for forgiveness and we should thank Him for the blessings He has bestowed upon us. The Prophet (PBUH) on one occasion informed the Muslims about the power of dua.

Literally tawba means ‘to return’ or ‘to retreat’. In Muslim law, it suggests that to show or to retreat from past sinful and evil actions. The word tawba has been related to the word نصوح (nasūh) which suggests ‘to ameliorate or sincere’. Therefore tawba signifies sincere and trustworthy compunction, free from pretense and hypocrisy.

Like several alternative topics, the act of atoning and seeking Allah’s forgiveness has additionally been mentioned within the sacred text with a lot of importance. For those fans who have wronged themselves, the Qur’an asks them to become remorseful, request Allah’s forgiveness, and build a sincere tawba, and assures them that if they are doing this, God can forgive them, and label them from their misdeeds.

Islam doesn’t read any soul as being inerrant. Any soul is subject to errors, God being the sole excellent one. Therefore the only authority for the forgiveness of any soul corresponds to God. Muslims deny the authority of men to concentrate to a different person’s confessions so pronounce him forgiven of his sin. Likewise repenting to anyone besides God is prohibited.

According to Muslim law, once associate act of tawba is performed by a Muslim, God usually accepts it. However, that tawba ought to be sincere and true. Muslim students agree upon the actual fact that if an individual isn’t mortified of his past misdeeds, or doesn’t intent to desert those, then his verbal effort of tawba is an open mockery of compunction. Mere verbal compunction doesn’t account for a real tawba. A sincere tawba has some criteria. Hazrat Ali was asked on what’s tawba, and he replied that tawba consists of six elements:

To regret one’s past evil deeds;

To hold out Divine duties that were missed;

To come back the rights/properties of others that were taken unjustly;

To raise forgiveness of an creature who has been wronged, verbally or physically;

To form a firm resolve of avoiding the sin in future; and

To use oneself in Allah’s obedience, as he antecedently utilized himself in Allah’ disobedience.

In Muslimm law, tawba could be a twofold approach: an individual initial ought to be able to acknowledge and desert his/her sins upon that God guarantees to forgive them. Islam expects Muslims to understand their mistakes and shortcomings, and to hunt His forgiveness. Forgiveness for one’s sins isn’t one thing that comes automatically; it’s one thing that has got to be exploring for, with sincereness and true devotion.

One ought to renew compunction each once one remembers past sins and once falls into them again:

If one remembers a past sin it’s suggested to renew one’s compunction and seeking forgiveness, whereas being appreciative to God for the success of exploit the sin; and

If one falls into a similar sin once more it’s obligatory to renew one’s compunction, albeit one keeps falling into the sin repeatedly.

The scholar’s caution, however, that one isn’t expected to do to bring back mind all one’s past sins and repent from them. Rather, a general compunction from past sins is each valid and decent.

Have you ever observed a parent child relationship, in which kid’s best friend is his father or mother? They are the ones to whom the child wishes to say each and everything he or she wants. In every trouble or problem he looks to them for help. Same is the case when a true believer turns to Allah Almighty to seek guidance, mercy, forgiveness, peace, tranquility, etc.

Observing someone praying to Allah Almighty, saying the heart out, which you cannot say or share with others is very unique and interesting. You can say anything or everything because you don’t have any secrets from Allah Almighty. You can do this in your heart so that nobody else should involved, or keep faith in your heart that none but Allah Almighty can understand what exactly you have in your heart. All you wish to do is to pass all your tensions, anxieties, worries, problems, doubts, fears and everything to none other than but your Lord, Allah Almighty. Allah Almighty is the Lord of all worlds and all that exists in between them. To whom you can submit all what you have in your heart and mind with a firm belief that He listens and grants wishes for or whatever is good for you. This can be done only with firm belief in Allah Almighty and through dua or supplication.

“Dua” a connection, a link, a bonding or in other words dua or supplication is the essence of Ibadah(worship). Dua is a gift blessed to the believers by Allah Almighty. If you call dua as the strongest weapon of believers, you will not be considered wrong at all.

Dua is so powerful and effective that it can change fate when nothing else could do. With dua you can never fail. It is actually the matter of your strong belief upon Allah Almighty. How you see Him? How strong your Imaan is? Submitting everything to Allah Almighty is so fulfilling that the person who does so feels so much satisfied and peaceful that nothing can harm him or her. Allah Almighty shall do what’s the best for them. All they need to do is to pray to Allah Almighty and have a strong faith that he shall do the best for them.

Dua itself is such an empowering and liberating act with an exceptional significance. Islam has emphasized so much on dua. Number of times Allah Almighty has mentioned in Holy Quran about supplication, prayer and dua. It affirms our faith and offers tranquility to our hearts. Our Holy Prophet S.A.W has also guided Muslims to turn to Allah Almighty in the times of troubles or happiness, indeed. We can see number of hadiths and Quranic verses stating with the importance of Dua. Islam has guided Muslims about each and every matter of life and has also guided different duas for the solution of problems and sufferings. Starting from getting up in the morning till going to bed, we have been guided for each and every matter of our lives. If you are starting anything you should start by reciting BISMILLAH, that is: Starting with the name of Allah Almighty, it incorporates Barakaat in everything you do and keeps devil away. Similarly, we are guided for each and every matter of our lives by Allah Almighty. Specific duas or supplications are being guided to us and reciting them adds barakaat and Allah Almighty’s will with everything we do. According to a Hadith:

“Whosoever desires that Allah answers his duas in unfavorable and difficult conditions, he should make plentiful dua in days of ease and comfort.”

So adding these Islamic duas in our daily matters can bring us peace and tranquility.
