In the west, many people have the wrong concept that women of the east or those following the religion Islam have no rights. They say that most women are abused in this region and suffer a lot. They say that most Muslim women are uneducated; when they are pregnant, they do all heavy chores and suffer harsh treatment from their dominant husbands.

In reality this is not true, western media have covered this topic very badly, they have mixed the cultural attitudes and religion in the wrong way.The Women’s rights movement started in the 20th century but in reality, it started in the 7th century by Prophet Muhammad Sallalaho Alayhi Wasalam. Quran and Hadith guarantees right of every woman. These rights are almost equal to men but with some differences. In Islam, women and men equally recognize the creator of humankind.

By this partnership, both have equal rights and shares.

Allah Subhana Wa Taallah has made women equal to men as quoted in the Quran:

“OH Mankind! Be careful of your duties to your Lord Who created you from a single soul and from it its mate and from them both have spread abroad a multitude of men and women. Be careful if thou duty toward Allah Subhana Wa Taallah in Whom thou claim your rights of one another, and toward the wombs that bore you. Allah Subhana Wa Taallah has been a watcher over you”

According to Prophet Muhammad Sallalaho Alayhi Wasalam it is the right of every woman and man to acquire education equally.

Islam grants women freedom of choice, rights and expressions.

Prophet Muhammad Sallalaho Alayhi Wasalam encouraged them to contribute their opinions, ideas and thinking regarding religion, social matters, political matters and economical matters. Women got their right to vote 1400 years ago, and they had the right to be select the leader and to be the leader. If we look back in historical times, then women accompanied men during wars.

They helped to fight, to take care of wounded soldiers, bringing them food and serving them. They were not interred behind bars and for those women who were Prophet Muhammad Sallalaho Alayhi Wasalam freed them all. The extremist groups such as the Taliban and Al Qaeda have created this bad image of rights of Muslim women.

Those people who claim about Muslim women not having equal rights then they can read the Quran and the books containing Prophet Sallalaho Alayhi Wasalam’s Hadith. Women are most respectful and precious according to faith of Islam religion. Therefore, women receive immense respect and honor in Islamic countries.

Magic and sorcery have been seen by true Islams as advice by devils or demons and no one should indulge in any of this type of future-telling or advice. Allah and the Prophet Muhammad are the only ones who have true access to this knowledge and so they are the only ones who should be consulted on it. Allah has the answers to every problem and so should be the one to be consulted for any desire or trouble, not anyone else. However, this is not to say that magic shows are disallowed in Muslim countries, if they can prove they are only for entertainment and not for anything else.

The Prophet Abu Hurairah warned people against seven things in the world, of which magic was one of them. Whatever people consult or whomever they visit to learn these things is considered a rejection of Allah in a very bad sense, and punishment will strike these misguided people. Even the lighter forms of future-telling such as reading the stars for a person or telling their life from their palms is also forbidden. Anyone who indulges themselves with magic by visiting a witch or a soothsayer is punished by Allah by having his or her prayers ignored for forty days.

Even those who believe in it but do not practice magic are considered sinners. Magic is thought to be concerned with powers given by Satan, even though many practitioners of magic try not to bring harm to others by thoughts, deeds or other means. There is always the way down into the forbidden arts, which are considered the blackest imaginable. Many acts of absolute atrocity are committed against men, women and children and animals in the guise of magic and the lunatics who strive to make it acceptable to the world.

Magic, simple or complex, is simply seen as haraam or forbidden. It is a temptation to Man to ask of others rather than Allah for answers, future-seeing and other things, including temptation into lust, eating wrongly, consuming alcohol, all of which are forbidden in the Muslim faith. Some practitioners of the dark arts desecrate graves, eat pork and drink blood, all very wrong occupations to a Muslim and attributed to Satan, as well they should be in any country.

To a Muslim, competence in magic can only be attributed to Satan, not Allah, and, as such, it is thought the person may obtain greater powers than Allah. To a true believer this cannot be, as the only Power is Allah, and He has not given permission for this to be so. Many things are attributed to witches, warlocks and others in a Muslim country, and they will be lucky to escape with their lives if they are uncovered. Allah’s punishment is not usually very pleasant for any practitioner of the so-called dark arts.

Any person who is genuinely devoted to Allah, the prophet and his teachings, is quite often given to dreams in which the Prophet or Allah, or infrequently both, appear to them. These dreams usually leave the person refreshed and filled with joy and thankfulness to Allah at their visions. The dreams are seen as a positive future, both on earth and when the person dies and is welcomed into Allah’s presence.

Sometimes the dreams tell of good fortune coming and this usually will come true. As does the feeling of lightening of the soul that these devout people often experience. These dreams are often alluded to as the person having them being allowed to glimpse the future as far as Allah permits. These dreams, if good, also signify that the dreamer is on the right path towards Allah and is to be blessed.

The dreams can signify different things when deciphered at different times of the day. Mornings are usually positive, but evenings or afternoons can be the opposite. Dreaming of nasty things, like snakes or scorpions usually means that the person is not on track according to Allah’s wishes and needs to repent and admit to their sins. Although if a grave is opened, there will only be found the normal bones of a human body and no sign of a snake’s remains or that of a scorpion the idea is ingrained from whence the person has the dream.

When a person sleeps their soul is thought to go to Allah who returns it the next morning. If He is pleased with them, they will return refreshed and energised, if not, they will have a restless sleep and be grumpy and tired the next day because of the lack of restful sleep. People may say that they do not dream. This is untrue, as the body does dream, but often the mind covers the dreams in a cloak of secrecy because they have been too unpleasant to recall. Even good dreams may fall victim to this type of censorship by the person’s own mind. The mind is conditioned to deny things that may mean something is going to drastically change a comfortable life, or a personal one, therefore dreams are not always given their due.

Dreams are not straight-forward, either in message or appearance, but, should the person seeking enlightenment continue on, they will make sense. Some may be about something that is weighing heavily on the person’s mind which may be work or personal reasons. Other times, if the person is extremely devout, they may simply be affirmations of this to the person’s inner self should some small doubt have surfaced? Many dreams may simply be a reflection of the way the person is feeling, or an illness that has not been suspected, and may be a warning of this potential problem.

Have you ever thought about the fact that Almighty Allah has a plan for you and every one alive even before conception by your parents? As a Muslim, you should know that this is definitely true whether you have thought about it or not. There is this basic teaching of Islam that states that when you do not achieve success in certain things you have worked hard for, you have to believe that Allah knows in his Omnipotence that is not the best thing for you at this time.

He has either delayed it to a better time or prepared something greater for you. This is very similar to the common saying that states “Man Proposes, God Disposes”. We will stretch this article further with examples and verses from the Quran and Hadith for better explanations

Allah’s Plan and Al-Qadar

Sit back and reflect on the fact that Almighty Allah created the Earth, The Heavens, all that is in between them and beyond them. Therefore, he has a plan for all of his creatures and to live a fulfilled life, you have to understand how to tap into Allah’s Plan for you. As Muslims, we should believe that Allah has the best plan for us and this plan is flexible, glorious and in a way tied to Al-Qadar or individual destinies. According to Suratul Hajj, verse 70; “Know you not that Allah knows all that is in the heaven and on the earth? Verily, it is (all) in the Book (Al‑Lawh Al‑Mahfooz). Verily, that is easy for Allah”.

This means that the master planner, Allah has decreed everything that will happen. In the Hadith also, Abdullah ibn Amr ibn Al-Aas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that “I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: Allah wrote down the decrees of creation fifty thousand years before He created the heavens and the earth.”

Therefore, we must understand that Allah has a good plan for us in this life and the hereafter. To key into that plan which is definitely the best for us, we should abide by the teachings of Islam and place Almighty Allah first in all of our worldly endeavours. While in search of a job, a wife or before embarking on any money making venture, we should pray to Allah in order to achieve success and be guided aright.

It must also be noted that Allah’s plan does not prevent us from exercising our free will as humans, especially as there are two types of Qadar, one which is fixed and the other flexible. To live a happy life, we should obey Allah’s commandments, pray hard, and work hard in legal ways in order to live a comfortable life. If we do this, with Allah’s help, we will definitely key into his plan for us and be among the successful ones both in this life and in the hereafter.

Ma Salam.

Do You Know?

1.5 billion Muslims of the world celebrate their holiest month of Ramadan every year. It is an obligation on every adult and healthy Muslim to fast during the month of Ramadan. Fasting is a total abstention from eating, drinking, and sexual relations from dawn to dusk for 29 or 30 days of the month of Ramadan. Also, avoiding immoral behavior and anger and showing compassion is part of the requirements of the fasting. The month of Ramadan is also the month in which the Holy Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in piecemeal basis over a period of 23 years. It is a very joyous occasion for the Muslims of the world. Muslims fast during the day and pray and read Quran during the part of the night.

A Few Hadith On Fasting:

Sahih Bukhari :: Book# 31 :: Hadith# 115

Narrated Talha bin ‘Ubaid-Ullah: A bedouin with unkempt hair came to Allah’s Apostle and said, “O Allah’s Apostle! Inform me what Allah has made compulsory for me as regards the prayers.” He replied: “You have to offer perfectly the five compulsory prayers in a day and night (24 hours), unless you want to pray Nawafil.” The bedouin further asked, “Inform me what Allah has made compulsory for me as regards fasting.” He replied, “You have to fast during the whole month of Ramadan, unless you want to fast more as Nawafil.” The bedouin further asked, “Tell me how much Zakat Allah has enjoined on me.” Thus, Allah’s Apostle informed him about all the rules (i.e. fundamentals) of Islam. The bedouin then said, “By Him Who has honored you, I will neither perform any Nawafil nor will I decrease what Allah has enjoined on me. Allah’s Apostle said, “If he is saying the truth, he will succeed (or he will be granted Paradise).”

Sahih Bukhari :: Book# 31 :: Hadith# 118

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Apostle said, “Fasting is a shield (or a screen or a shelter). So, the person observing fasting should avoid sexual relation with his wife and should not behave foolishly and impudently, and if somebody fights with him or abuses him, he should tell him twice, ‘I am fasting.” The Prophet added, “By Him in Whose Hands my soul is, the smell coming out from the mouth of a fasting person is better in the sight of Allah than the smell of musk. (Allah says about the fasting person), ‘He has left his food, drink and desires for My sake. The fast is for Me. So I will reward (the fasting person) for it and the reward of good deeds is multiplied ten times.”

Sahih Bukhari :: Book# 31 :: Hadith# 120

Narrated Sahl: The Prophet said, “There is a gate in Paradise called Ar-Raiyan, and those who observe fasts will enter through it on the Day of Resurrection and none except them will enter through it. It will be said, ‘Where are those who used to observe fasts?’ They will get up, and none except them will enter through it. After their entry the gate will be closed and nobody will enter through it.”

Sahih Bukhari :: Book# 31 :: Hadith# 123

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Apostle said, “When the month of Ramadan starts, the gates of the heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are closed and the devils are chained.”

Sahih Bukhari :: Book# 31 :: Hadith# 124

Narrated Ibn Umar: I heard Allah’s Apostle saying, “When you see the crescent (of the month of Ramadan), start fasting, and when you see the crescent (of the month of Shawwal), stop fasting; and if the sky is overcast (and you can’t see It) then regard the crescent (month) of Ramadan (as of 30 days)”.

Sahih Bukhari :: Book# 31 :: Hadith# 125

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, “Whoever established prayers on the night of Qadr out of sincere faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven; and whoever fasts in the month of Ramadan out of sincere faith, and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven.”

Sahih Bukhari :: Book# 31 :: Hadith# 126

Narrated Ibn ‘Abbas: The Prophet was the most generous amongst the people, and he used to be more so in the month of Ramadan when Gabriel visited him, and Gabriel used to meet him on every night of Ramadan till the end of the month. The Prophet used to recite the Holy Qur’an to Gabriel, and when Gabriel met him, he used to be more generous than a fast wind (which causes rain and welfare).

Sahih Bukhari :: Book# 31 :: Hadith# 127

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, “Whoever does not give up forged speech and evil actions, Allah is not in need of his leaving his food and drink (i.e. Allah will not accept his fasting.)”

Sahih Bukhari :: Book# 31 :: Hadith# 128

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Apostle said, “Allah said, ‘All the deeds of Adam’s sons (people) are for them, except fasting which is for Me, and I will give the reward for it.’ Fasting is a shield or protection from the fire and from committing sins. If one of you is fasting, he should avoid sexual relation with his wife and quarreling, and if somebody should fight or quarrel with him, he should say, ‘I am fasting.’ By Him in Whose Hands my soul is’ The unpleasant smell coming out from the mouth of a fasting person is better in the sight of Allah than the smell of musk. There are two pleasures for the fasting person, one at the time of breaking his fast, and the other at the time when he will meet his Lord; then he will be pleased because of his fasting.”

Sahih Bukhari :: Book# 31 :: Hadith# 212

Narrated Abu Sa’id: The Prophet forbade the fasting of ‘Id-ul-Fitr and ‘Id-ul-Adha (two feast days) and also the wearing of As-Samma’ (a single garment covering the whole body), and sitting with one’s leg drawn up while being wrapped in one garment. He also forbade the prayers after the Fajr (morning) and the ‘Asr (afternoon) prayers.

The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.) said “The devil continually pursues humans as a wolf pursues sheep. The wolf only dares to attack those sheep which have separated from the rest of the flock and are standing alone. And so, my followers and my devotees! Save yourselves from being caught in the traps of misguidance and firmly remain with the largest and most well known group of Muslims!” (Ahmad)

Allah’s Messenger (s.a.w.) said ” Allah will never allow my Ummah to unite upon misguidance and incorrect beliefs. Allah’s mercy, blessings and protection are with the largest group of Muslims. And he who deviates from this largest group of Muslims will be thrown into Hell.” (Tirmidhi)

Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman (r.a.) said, “People used to ask the Prophet (sal-Allaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam) about good things, but I used to ask him about bad things because I was afraid that they might overtake me.
I said, ‘O Messenger of Allaah, we were lost in ignorance (Jahiliyyah) and evil, then Allaah brought this good (i.e. Islaam). Will some evil come after this good thing?’ He said, ‘Yes’ I asked, ‘And will some good come after that evil?’ He said, ‘Yes, but it will be tainted with some evil’ I asked, ‘How will it be tainted?’ He said, ‘There will be some people who will lead others on a path different from mine. You will see good and bad in them.”
I asked, ‘Will some evil come after that good?’ He said, ‘Some people will be standing and calling at the gates of Hell; whoever responds to their call, they will throw him into the Fire.’ I said, ‘O Messenger of Allaah, describe them for us.’ He said, ‘They will be from our own people, and will speak our language.’ I asked, ‘What do you advise me to do if I should live to see that?’ He said, ‘Stick to the main body (jamaa’ah) of the Muslims and their leader (Imaam).
I asked, ‘What if there is no main body and no leader?’ He said ‘Isolate yourself from all of these sects, even if you have to eat the roots of trees until death overcomes you while you are in that state.’ ”

Alhamdulillah my dear husband has come down with a high fever (among other effects) only a few days before he is to depart and come home. Allah give him shaf’aa, ameen.

Do you ever wonder why Allah subhana wa t’ala allows his believers to come down with sickness?

Hadith – Bukhari 7:564

“I visited Allah’s Apostle (SA) while he was suffering from a high fever. I touched him with my hand and said, “O Allah’s Apostle! You have a high fever.” Allah’s Apostle (SA) said, “Yes, I have as much fever as two men of you have.” I said, “Is it because you will get a double reward?” Allah’s Apostle (SA) said, “Yes, no Muslim is afflicted with harm because of sickness or some other inconvenience, but that Allah will remove his sins for him as a tree sheds its leaves.”

What does this all mean? It means that although you feel as though you are suffering, when you find yourself sick, a sin is erased from your record. So next time, do not place any negative connotation when explaining your sickness (i.e “I feel horrible.”), rather say “Alhamdulillah, I do not feel well.” Count your blessings while you are sick (mar’eetha) using the opportunity to seek forgiveness of sins inshaAllah.

Rasulallah (SA) said, “Allah will never allow my Ummah to unite upon misguidance and incorrect beliefs. Allah’s mercy, blessings and protection are with the largest group of Muslims. And he who deviates from the largest group of Muslims will be thrown into Hell.”

[Tirmidhi]

This article is an effort to clear doubts and misconceptions about the Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat, the largest group of Muslims & the righteous sect of Islam.

Every Sunni (follower of the Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat) must follow one of the four Madhabs (Islamic school of jurisprudence/Fiqh) i.e. Hanafi, Shafi, Maliki & Hanbali.

He must follow only one Madhab & abide by its rules & conditions.

Those who follow no Madhab, or mix the rules of the four Madhab to his own liking are la-Madhabi meaning they have no Madhab & no form of guidance.

One is only ever allowed to refer to another Madhab if it is ‘kharaj’ i.e. extremely difficult or even impossible to perform an action in accordance to one’s own Madhab. This is under the condition that one ensures the action is being performed properly according to the Madhab whose alternative rulings he is choosing to follow.

The scholars of the Hanafi Madhab have issued a fatwa permitting one to imitate the Maliki Madhab in such cases.

With respect to itiqad (belief), the four Madhabs do not differ and all belong to the path of Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat. All four Imams were great Mujtahids, meaning scholars who decide how certain actions should be performed in accordance with the Shariah. They only disagreed with each other on small issues in regards to actions, and no Madhab considers the other wrong.

There are no other correct Madhabs other than these four. One can choose the Madhab he wishes to follow according to his own personal preference, but once he has chosen one he should stick to it and abide by its rules.

The Ulema advise that a person should remain with one Madhab all their life. This is because although it is permissible to change over to another, one must have a valid reason for this change i.e. religious necessity.

If one changes Madhab due to wordly considerations, this is considered a dangerous act as it means he is making a game out of religion and it is even feared he will die without Imaan. Also to change Madhab requires very thorough research & understanding of the conditions before one can fully grasp the new Madhab properly. It is for these reasons that it is strongly recommended to stay attached to one Madhab and to abide by it fully.

Jewellery

Jewellery is permissible for women as long as it is silent, as the jingle can attract the attention of strangers.

NB. Sisters please take note that gold is permissible for sisters only. Males are not allowed to wear gold in Islam, as it is haram for them.

Haircuts

Haircuts are permissible for women as it is important to keep clean and look presentable. However, haircuts & hairdos should not imitate that of a man, and hair must hang below the shoulders.

Plucking eyebrows

It is haram to remove some of your eyebrow hair, or to shave your eyebrows and paint on new ones.

A Hadith Sharif narrated by Abu Dawud states, “Rasulallah (SA) cursed the women who plucked & those who were employed to pluck the eyebrows.”

Hairpieces/wigs

A narration by Hazrat Aisha reports that Rasulallah (SA) cursed women who wore hairpieces and the women who aided in this practise.

Spacing teeth & having tattoos

This is not permissible in Islam, as it disfigures and distorts the original creation of Allah . Those who have tattoos should get them surgically removed for his/her own benefit.

A Hadith Sharif states, “Rasulallah (SA) cursed women who tattooed, and those who got themselves tattooed, those who sharpen the teeth of others (as a mark of beauty) and those who had their teeth sharpened.” (Bukhari, Muslim)

Make-up & cosmetics

These are permissible for women, so long as it is not worn with the intention to show off, impress or attract others or other wrongful niyyats.

A woman should keep herself tidy, presentable and be graceful at all times. She should also take care of her natural beauty too, so make sure you avoid things which can harm your health eg. direct sunlight.

Perfume

In a Hadith Sharif narrated by Abu Dawud, Rasulallah (SA) said, “Males should use that perfume which does not give colour but has a strong smell; and the females should use that perfume which gives colour but has a light smell.”

This is to prevent gossip and unwanted attention from strange men.

Henna

Henna is permissible to use on the hands, and even on the hair as a natural dye. However, please beware of Hennas that are mixed with haram substances.

There are many miracles of Sayyidina Rasulallah . Indeed, the radiance of his blessed face was a miracle in itself!

Nevertheless, this short summary of miracles has been compiled in an effort to demonstrate a few of the miracles of our Beloved Prophet, in order to help others further understand the elevated status & power of Sayyidina Rasulallah .

1. Holy Qur’an

The greatest miracle of Sayyidina Rasulallah is the Holy Qur’an which was revealed to him by Almighty Allah, often brought to him by the Angel Jibra’il.

Despite many attempts by the evil-doers, from the time of its revelation to this day, none have been able to compose even a single verse equal to that of the Holy Qur’an.

“Say: “If the whole of mankind and Jinns were to gather together to produce the like of this Qur’an, they could not produce the like thereof, even if they backed up each other with help and support.”

[Holy Qur’an 17:88]

2. Splitting of the Moon

“The Hour has come near, and the moon has split [in two].”

[Holy Qur’an 54:1]

When Sayyidina Rasulallah was 52 years old, the disbelieving leaders of the Quraish tribe challenged him by saying, “If you are indeed a Prophet, split the moon into two parts.”

Sayyidina Rasulallah dearly wanted the people to convert to Islam and attain guidance, especially his close friends & relatives. Thus he prayed to Almighy Allah to make it possible, and the moon split into halves. Each part of the moon was visible above different mountains.

Despite witnessing this, the disbelievers said, “He has performed magic,” and due to their stubborn ways, denied this miracle. They did not accept Islam regardless of the clear proof which was provided to them.

Narrated Hazrat Anas b. Malik: “That the Makkan people requested Allah’s Apostle to show them a miracle, and so he showed them the splitting of the moon.”

[Sahih Bukhari: Book #56, Hadith #831]

3. Water from the Blessed Fingers

During the battle of Hudaibiya, the Muslims came upon a water shortage. The only water available was the amount that Sayyidina Rasulallah had, which he then dipped his blessed hands into and it began to flow from his blessed fingers in abundance.

This miracle has happened on a number of occasions, on which the Holy Prophet would cause water to flow from his blessed hands so there was enough available for each Companion in need of it. Sometimes eighty, sometimes three hundred, sometimes fifteen hundred, and in the war of Tabuk, seventy thousand people and their animals drank this water and used it.

Narrated Hazrat Salim: Hazrat Jabir said “On the day of Al-Hudaibiya, the people felt thirsty and Allah’s Apostle had a utensil containing water. He performed ablution from it and then the people came towards him. Allah’s Apostle said, ‘What is wrong with you?’ The people said, ‘O Allah’s Apostle! We haven’t got any water to perform ablution with or to drink, except what you have in your utensil.’ So the Prophet put his hand in the utensil and the water started spouting out between his fingers like springs. So we drank and performed ablution.”

I said to Jabir, “What was your number on that day?” He replied, “Even if we had been one hundred thousand, that water would have been sufficient for us. Anyhow, we were 1500.’

[Sahih Bukhari: Book #59, Hadith #473]

4. The Crying Tree-Trunk

Sayyidina Rasulallah used to deliver the Friday sermon whilst leaning against a tree trunk. Oneday, one of the Ansar offered to make a pulpit to replace the tree trunk, to which the Holy Prophet replied, “if you wish.”

When it was made, the tree trunk cried out of sadness that the Holy Prophet would no longer stand by it and preach religious knowledge near it.

Narrated Hazrat Jabir bin ‘Abdullah: “The Prophet used to stand by the stem of a date-palm tree (while delivering a sermon). When the pulpit was placed for him, we heard that stem crying like a pregnant she-camel till the Prophet got down from the pulpit and placed his hand over it.”

5. Food Recites Zikr in His Blessed Hands

It was witnessed many times how the gravel or the food in his hand, sounding like bees, would recite the names of Allah.

From a narration by Hazrat Abdullah: “..I saw the water flowing from among the fingers of Allah’s Apostle, and no doubt, we heard the meal glorifying Allah, when it was being eaten (by him).”

6. Increase of Water in the Well at Hudaibiya

When the water in the well at Hudaibiya had dried out, the Holy Prophet rinsed his mouth into it causing the water levels to rise up once again.

Narrated Hazrat Al-Bara: “We were one-thousand-and-four-hundred persons on the day of Al-Hudaibiya, and (at) Al-Hudaibiya (there) was a well. We drew out its water not leaving even a single drop. The Prophet sat at the edge of the well and asked for some water with which he rinsed his mouth, and then he threw it out into the well. We stayed for a short while and then drew water from the well and quenched our thirst, and even our riding animals drank water to their satisfaction.

[Sahih Bukhari Book #56, Hadith #777]

7. Increase in Dates

The Holy Prophet went to Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah’s garden of dates upon his request, and invoked Allah so that they’d increase with His blessings and he could easily pay off his father’s debt.

Narrated Hazrat Jabir: “My father had died in debt. So I came to the Prophet and said, “My father (died) leaving unpaid debts, and I have nothing except the yield of his date palms; and their yield for many years will not cover his debts. So please come with me, so that the creditors may not misbehave with me.” The Prophet went round one of the heaps of dates and invoked (Allah), and then did the same with another heap and sat on it and said, “Measure (for them).” He paid them their rights and what remained was as much as had been paid to them.”

[Sahih Bukhari: Volume 4, Book 56, Number 780]

8. A Wolf Speaks of the Messenger of Allah

It has been written that a wolf also spoke to one of the companions of the Holy Prophet, near Madinah Sharif, as narrated in Fatah-al-Bari:

“Narrated Unais bin ‘Amr: Ahban bin Aus said, “I was amongst my sheep. Suddenly a wolf caught a sheep and I shouted at it. The wolf sat on its tail and addressed me, saying, ‘Who will look after it (i.e. the sheep) when you will be busy and not able to look after it? Do you forbid me the provision which Allah has provided me?’ ” Ahban added, “I clapped my hands and said, ‘By Allah, I have never seen anything more curious and wonderful than this (that a wolf can speak like a human being)!’ On that, the wolf said, ‘There is something (more curious) and wonderful than this; that is, Allah’s Apostle in those palm trees, inviting people to Allah (i.e. Islam).’ “Unais bin ‘Amr further said, “Then Ahban went to Allah’s Apostle and informed him what happened and embraced Islam.””

9. The Me’raj – Ascension to Heavens

“Exalted is He who took His Servant [the Holy Prophet] by night from al-Masjid al-Haram to al-Masjid al- Aqsa, whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our Signs. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Seeing.”

[Holy Qur’an 17:1]

This is a journey exclusive to the Holy Prophet on which he was shown a great many signs, including meeting many Prophets of Allah and seeing the inhabitants of Heaven and Hell.

10. The Blind Man’s Sight

Hazrat Usman bin Hanif says that a blind man once went to the place of the Holy Prophet and said, “O Messenger of Allah! Pray for me that I may regain my sight.”

The Holy Prophet replied, “Go and perform ablution and read two Rakaats of Nafl Namaaz and read this Du’a, ‘O Allah! Verily I ask of you and towards You, I use the mediation of Muhammad Mustafa. O Muhammad, verily I turn through your Waseela (medium) to your Creator for my needs, so that my needs may be fulfilled. O Allah, accept the intercession of Muhammad for me.”

[Ibn Maja; Shifa Sharif]

11. Expulsion of the Body of a Liar

A Christian who returned to disbelief after he had embraced Islam was buried by his people. However, upon burial, the soil would constantly reject his body due to the disrespect he had shown to the Messenger of Allah .

Narrated Hazrat Anas: “There was a Christian who embraced Islam and read Surat-al-Baqara and Al-Imran, and he used to write (the revelations) for the Prophet. Later on he returned to Christianity again and he used to say: “Muhammad knows nothing but what I have written for him.” Then Allah caused him to die, and the people buried him, but in the morning they saw that the earth had thrown his body out. They said, “This is the act of Muhammad and his companions. They dug the grave of our companion and took his body out of it because he had run away from them.” They again dug the grave deeply for him, but in the morning they again saw that the earth had thrown his body out. They said, “This is an act of Muhammad and his companions. They dug the grave of our companion and threw his body outside it, for he had run away from them.” They dug the grave for him as deep as they could, but in the morning they again saw that the earth had thrown his body out. So they believed that what had befallen him was not done by human beings and had to leave him thrown (on the ground).”

The Mercy of Almighty Allah is so great that one should never despair whether or not his Lord will forgive him.

Apart from the act of Shirk (associating partners with Allah), all sins are forgiven when the sinner turns to repent sincerely for his actions.

It is stated in the Holy Qur’an:

“Proclaim, O dear Muhammad: ‘O my slaves, who have wronged themselves, do not lose hope in Allah’s mercy; indeed Allah forgives all sins; indeed only He is the Oft Forgiving, the Most Merciful.’”

[Holy Qur'an 39:53]

“…He said, “I give My punishment to whomever I will; and My mercy encompasses all things; so I shall soon destine favours for those who fear and pay the charity, and they believe in Our signs.”

[Holy Qur'an 7:156]

Hadith Sharif about His Mercy

Narrated by Hazrat Abu Huraira, Sayyidina Rasulallah said, “When Allah completed the creation, He wrote in His Book which is with Him on His Throne, “My Mercy overpowers My Anger.”

[Sahih Bukhari - Book 54, Hadith no. 416]

Hazrat Anas ibn Malik said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah say:

“Allah said, ‘O son of Adam, so long as you call upon Me and ask of Me, I shall forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind. O son of Adam, were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky and were you then to ask forgiveness of Me, I would forgive you and I would not mind.’”

[Tirmidhi, Hadith no. 3540]

Allah’s Forgiveness Overpowers His Wrath

Sayyidina Rasulallah said:

“There was a man who had heartlessly murdered ninety-nine people. Then, he felt remorse.

He went to a learned man and told him about his past, explaining that he wished to repent, reform, and become a better person.

“I wonder if Allah will pardon me?” he asked.

For all his learning, the scholar was a man who had not been able to digest what he had learned.

“You will not be pardoned”, he said. “Then I may as well kill you too,” said the other. And kill him, he did.

He then found another worthy individual and told him that he had killed a hundred people.

“I wonder,” he said, “whether Allah will pardon me if I repent?”

Being a truly wise man, he replied, “Of course you will be pardoned; repent at once. I have just one piece of advice for you: avoid the company of wicked people and mix with good people, for bad company leads one into sin.”

The man expressed repentance and regret, weeping as he sincerely implored his Lord to pardon him. Then, turning his back on bad company, he set off to find a neighborhood where righteous people lived.

On the way, his appointed hour arrived, and he died. The Angels of Punishment and the Angels of Mercy both came to take away his soul.

The Angels of Punishment said that as a sinful person, he rightfully belonged to them, but the Angels of Mercy also claimed him, saying, “He repented and had resolved to become a good man. He was on his way to a place where righteous people live, but his appointed hour had come.”

A great debate ensued, and Hazrat Jibra’il was sent as an arbitrator to settle this affair.

After hearing both sides he gave this verdict: “Measure the ground. If the spot where he died is closer to the good people, then he belongs to the Angels of Mercy, but if it is nearer to the wicked people, he will be given to the Angels of Punishment.”

They measured the ground. Because the man had just set out, he was still closer to the wicked. But because he was sincere in his repentance, the Merciful Lord moved the spot where he lay and brought it just outside the city of the pious people.

That penitent servant was then handed over to the Angels of Mercy.”

Fear of Allah & its Reward: A Story

Hazrat Hudhaifa reports that the Messenger of Allah said:

“There was a man amongst the people who had suspicion as to the righteousness of his deeds. Therefore he said to his family, ‘If I die, take me and burn my corpse and throw my ashes into the sea on a hot (or windy) day.’ They did so, but Allah, collected his particles and asked (him), What made you do what you did?’ He replied, ‘The only thing that made me do it, was that I was afraid of You.’ So Allah forgave him.”

[Sahih Bukhari: Book 76, Hadith 487]

Fear of Allah – Taqwa

Hazrat Abu Zar Ghaffari reports that Sayyidina Rasulallah said:

“Fear Allah wherever you are; if you follow an evil deed with a good one you will obliterate it; and deal with people with a good disposition.”

[Tirmidhi, Hadith no. 5083]

The Arabic word for the “fear of Allah” is Taqwa. It comes from the root word meaning “to protect from something, to prevent”.

Indeed, a person fear’s Allah & His Wrath by seeking to prevent Allah’s punishment. This is exhibited by willfully avoiding actions that lead to Allah’s Anger and disapproval; while consciously performing actions that will please Allah.

The word ‘Taqwa’ and its variations have been used in the Holy Qur’an 151 times, which emphasises the importance for a believer to be conscious of Allah’s Pleasure and fear His Wrath.

Quotes about Fear of Allah

Imam Ghazali says:

“Fear rips away desires and muddens luxuries so that cherished sins become reprehensible, just as a honey lover is repelled by it when he learns that it has poison in it. This is how fear burns desires; disciplines the organs; subordinates the heart and gives it tranquillity. It also enables the heart to rid itself of pride, hatred, and envy; and it leaves it absorbed in it (fear). Hence, the heart becomes preoccupied with its own worries and looks towards its best interest in the long run. It is then engaged in only matters like meditation, self-analysis and struggle. It cherishes its time and moments.”

Hazrat Rabiya Basri says:

“Fear is like a candle whose flame helps a person distinguish good from evil; and fear of Allah allows a person to turn away from evil. Those who fear mere creatures flee from them; but those who fear Allah flee to Him.”

Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddique says:

“Run away from greatness and greatness will follow you. There is greatness in the fear of God, contentment in faith of God, and honour in humility.”

Fear of Allah in the Holy Qur’an

The fear of Allah is the path to forgiveness, salvation, and the attainment of Allah’s mercy.

“Indeed, Allah is with those who fear Him and those who do good.”

[Surah al-Nahl, Verse 128]

“And My mercy encompasses all things, and I shall decree it for those who fear Me.”

[Surah al-Araf, Verse 156]

“He is worthy of being feared and worthy of granting forgiveness.”

[Surah al-Mudathir, Verse 56]

“And whoever fears Allah – He will pardon him his sins and grant him a great reward.”

[Surah al-Talaq, Verse 5]

“Indeed, those who fear Allah will be among gardens and rivers, in a seat of truth near an All-Powerful Sovereign.”

[Surah al-Qamar, Verse 54-55]

Allah promises those who fear Him that He will provide for their needs and grant them a way out of their worldly difficulties. Allah says: “And whoever fears Allah, He will make for him a way out, and provide for him from whence he could never imagine.”

[Surah al-Talaq, Verse 2-3]

This is Allah’s promise. We should draw strength from it when we are tried in life with difficulties that tempt us to resort to what Allah has forbidden.

Allah has called upon all people in every era to fear Him so that they may be guided & attain His Pleasure.

Allah says: “And We had enjoined upon those who were given the Scripture before – as well as yourselves – to fear Allah.”

[Surah al-Nisa, Verse 131]

It is Allah’s right over His servants that they fear Him as He ought to be feared. Allah says: “O you who believe! Fear Allah as He ought to be feared and do not die except as believers.”

[Surah al-Imran, Verse 102]

(the mother of the faithful believers) The commencement of the Divine Inspiration to Allah’s Apostle was in the form of good dreams which came true like bright day light, and then the love of seclusion was bestowed upon him. He used to go in seclusion in the cave of Hira where he used to worship (Allah alone) continuously for many days before his desire to see his family. He used to take with him the journey food for the stay and then come back to (his wife) Khadija to take his food like-wise again till suddenly the Truth descended upon him while he was in the cave of Hira. The angel came to him and asked him to read. The Prophet replied, “I do not know how to read.

The Prophet added, “The angel caught me (forcefully) and pressed me so hard that I could not bear it any more. He then released me and again asked me to read and I replied, ‘I do not know how to read.’ Thereupon he caught me again and pressed me a second time till I could not bear it any more. He then released me and again asked me to read but again I replied, ‘I do not know how to read (or what shall I read)?’ Thereupon he caught me for the third time and pressed me, and then released me and said, ‘Read in the name of your Lord, who has created (all that exists) has created man from a clot. Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous.” (96.1, 96.2, 96.3) Then Allah’s Apostle returned with the Inspiration and with his heart beating severely. Then he went to Khadija bint Khuwailid and said, “Cover me! Cover me!” They covered him till his fear was over and after that he told her everything that had happened and said, “I fear that something may happen to me.” Khadija replied, “Never! By Allah, Allah will never disgrace you. You keep good relations with your Kith and kin, help the poor and the destitute, serve your guests generously and assist the deserving calamity-afflicted ones.”

Khadija then accompanied him to her cousin Waraqa bin Naufal bin Asad bin ‘Abdul ‘Uzza, who, during the PreIslamic Period became a Christian and used to write the writing with Hebrew letters. He would write from the Gospel in Hebrew as much as Allah wished him to write. He was an old man and had lost his eyesight. Khadija said to Waraqa, “Listen to the story of your nephew, O my cousin!” Waraqa asked, “O my nephew! What have you seen?” Allah’s Apostle described whatever he had seen. Waraqa said, “This is the same one who keeps the secrets (angel Gabriel) whom Allah had sent to Moses. I wish I were young and could live up to the time when your people would turn you out.” Allah’s Apostle asked, “Will they drive me out?” Waraqa replied in the affirmative and said, “Anyone (man) who came with something similar to what you have brought was treated with hostility; and if I should remain alive till the day when you will be turned out then I would support you strongly.” But after a few days Waraqa died and the Divine Inspiration was also paused for a while.

of pause in revelation reporting the speech of the Prophet “While I was walking, all of a sudden I heard a voice from the sky. I looked up and saw the same angel who had visited me at the cave of Hira’ sitting on a chair between the sky and the earth. I got afraid of him and came back home and said, ‘Wrap me (in blankets).’ And then Allah revealed the following Holy Verses (of Quran):

‘O you (i.e. Muhammad)! wrapped up in garments!’ Arise and warn (the people against Allah’s Punishment),… up to ‘and desert the idols.’ (74.1-5) After this the revelation started coming strongly, frequently and regularly.”

How is the Divine Inspiration revealed to you?” Allah’s Apostle replied, “Sometimes it is (revealed) like the ringing of a bell, this form of Inspiration is the hardest of all and then this state passes ‘ off after I have grasped what is inspired. Sometimes the Angel comes in the form of a man and talks to me and I grasp whatever he says.” ‘Aisha added: Verily I saw the Prophet being inspired Divinely on a very cold day and noticed the Sweat dropping from his forehead (as the Inspiration was over).

The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “There are four who will be tested on the Day of Resurrection: the deaf who could not hear anything; the imbecile; the senile old man; and the man who died during the fatarah (interval between two Prophets, when no Message reached him).

The deaf man will say, “O Lord, Islam came and I did not hear anything.”The imbecile will say, “O Lord, Islam came but the young boys were pelting me with camel dung.” The senile old man will say, “O Lord, Islam came and I did not hear anything.” The man who died during the fatarah will say, “O Lord, no Messenger came to me.”

Then Allah will take their pledge to obey Him, and He will send word to them to enter the fire. By the One in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, if they enter it, it will be cool and safe for them.”

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, “Angels keep on descending from and ascending to the heaven in turn, some at night and some by daytime, and all of them assemble together at the time of the Fajr and ‘Asr prayers.
