Modesty – Part of Your Faith
What is modesty? Many people know a little about modesty. According to many Hadees or sayings of Prophet Muhammad SAAS as narrated by His SAAS companions, modesty is integral component of Muslim faith in Allah Subhana Wa Tallah.
Reported by Abu Mas’ud ‘Uqbah bin ‘Amr al-Ansari al-Badri, radiyallahu ‘anhu the Apostle SAAS revealed that modesty is helpful tool to prevent one from the act of disobedience of Allah Subhana wa Tallah. Modesty prevents the person from evil pursuits and from going morally wrong. Rasool Allah SAAS says, “Among the things that people have found from the words of the previous prophets was: ‘If you feel no shame, then do as you wish.’”
Call it bashfulness or shyness or you may go on to say modesty has so many names like shyness or shame and Haya. It is that feeling and expression that with its absence the person is nothing more but like a dead person. He can hear nothing, see nothing and feel nothing. His conscious is no more there to suggest and guide right from wrong. He loses his modesty due to boldness. Boldness is excellent when you have to fight with the enemies of Allah Subhana Wa tallah.
Boldness is great when you have to educate you. Boldness is good when you have to fight for your rights. Boldness is never good and benefits when you expose yourself to others in a certain way adorned with all the tools to seduce distract or amuse.
Among the many pillars of Prophet Hood is modesty. Be modest when it comes to seeing, hearing, speaking, dealing, doing business, studying, and dressing up and working and so on. When you walk on the streets keep your gaze down. Keep on reminding you that without modesty, your belief, faith or imaan is incomplete.
